Senior Bowl Practice Notes About Tyler Larsen

RANA L. CASH Sporting News
-- Utah State center Tyler Larsen had a strong showing during one-on-ones, particularly against the (likely) biggest winner of the week, Aaron Donald.  He was exceptional in keeping Donald at bay, consistently fighting for leverage through his block and sliding cleanly to mirror Donald’s counters.  While his arm length is a concern (30.5 inches), Larsen wins by battling underneath the reach of bigger interior linemen and constantly moving his hands.

Center: Tyler Larsen, Utah State (6ft 4, 317): Durable, consistent player who has nice mobility and a good punch. Projects as a mid round pick.

Senior Bowl, Day 2: Larsen looked to be at his best when playing in small areas. When he doesn’t have to play outside of himself, he can get blocks like he did Tuesday against one of the top defensive linemen in Mobile, Ra’Shede Hageman. Larsen fired off the ball, got his hands high and tight on Hageman’s chest plate and drove the defensive tackle into the ground.

GREG GABRIEL National Football Post

Utah State center Tyler Larsen has short arms, but he is quick off the ball and can use his hands well. He is tough and strong and does a nice job finishing blocks. Larsen jumped out because of his technique and tenacity.

If Nick Hardwick is considering retirement, center is a position of need. Larsen is a three-time All-WAC first-teamer, USA Today second-team All-American, and was one of six finalists for the Rimington Trophy (best center). Grade: 3rd or 4th round.

  • Shows ability to brace up hold his ground against bull rushers
  • Doesn't look pretty, but tends to get guys blocked

Tyler Larsen- OL- Utah State (N) Another four year starter at center, Larsen is a beast in the middle. With so many teams looking in the middle rounds for versatile interior linemen, I would not expect him to fall out of the third.y (best center). Grade: 3rd or 4th round

Mon: Not flashy but tough, efficient and got the job done. Plays smart, competitive football and finds a way to get the job done.
Tues: Was beaten badly by Hageman on one down yet for the most part workmanlike and got the job done.
Wed: He needs to get stronger at the point but love his tenacity, football smarts and the way he blocks with solid mechanics.
